About MeThis is a Liakat Medal, translating as "Medal of Merit". Instituted in 1890, the Liakat Medal became the basic military decoration of the late Ottoman Empire. It is made of silver and presents a small suspension ring through a hole on top of the medal, with a plain suspension bar that attaches the ribbon. The ribbon is red with narrow green side stripes, measures 4.5 cm, and seems to have been reversed at some point during wearing, since it indicates the reverse as front and vice versa. The front as indicated by the ribbon (which is meant to be the reverse) is inscribed with Arabic characters that translate as "Medal of Merit especially for Those Who Have Shown Loyalty and Bravery". It is dated in Arabic numerals with the year 1308 AH, equivalent of 1890 AD. The reverse indicated by the ribbon (which is meant to be the front) bears the Coat of Arms of the Ottoman Empire, with the tughra of Abdülhamid II as a crest.Alexander Cassie
