About MeIvory and blue two-piece silk dress comprising bodice with internal boning, peplum and frilled neckline and skirt with straight front, apron and gathered bustle at the back.

The crinoline style has gone out of fashion by this time. The large skirts of the 1860s now appear flattened at the front with the rest of the skirt bunched up at the back forming an early bustle style. The effect of fullness at the back was aided by flounces and draping. Underneath, bustle cages were worn to form the structure for skirts to be draped over. Sleeves are full and waistlines, which are normal, are still tight-fitting.

Pure silk is a versatile textile which can be woven to produce a lightweight fabric. It was often used during the Victorian and Edwardian period for summer dresses worn for special occasions.
