About MeTurner Prize nominee in 1995, Callum Innes studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and then at Edinburgh College of Art in the 1980s.

Characteristically, his works are cool, geometric abstracts, which are created through a process of what has been described as 'unpainting'. Starting with a minimalist canvas painted in one colour, paint is removed with washes of turpentine. Innes describes this working method as deliberately accidental - he determines what is going to happen but the picture changes in the making.
