About MeThis picture is one of a series of works based on the cathedral. Philipson was drawn to this motif after visiting Amiens Cathedral whilst on holiday. The artist was attracted by the majesty and grandeur of the building. The circular windows of stained glass had particular appeal. These rose windows - full of light and colour with their delicate tracery - gave Philipson the scope to explore colour and line pictorially.

The result is a composition which verges on abstraction but for the shapes of the rose windows. The subject became a vehicle for Philipson to explore the techniques of painting. His influences include Expressionist painters such as Willem de Kooning and Oskar Kokoschka.

More About Me
The artist was inspired by the stained-glass windows of Amiens Cathedral. Although you may not be able to identify a lot of definite features, this artwork is full of light, colour and joy.
