Stanley Robertson
Aberdeen, Scotland, 1940 - 2009
Stanley left school at the age of 14 to become a fish filleter, and working in Aberdeen’s fish houses proved a rich source for his storytelling. He later became a priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he gained the confidence to perform his songs and stories. Stanley published three successful plays and seven books, some of which are written in local Scots dialect. He featured in over 100 radio programmes and made many appearances on television and stage.
In 2016 the Grampian Association of Storytellers introduced the ‘Stanley Robertson Award for Traditional Storytelling’ to commemorate his significant influence as a storyteller both in the North-East of Scotland and across the globe.
