About MeThe exterior of this bowl is decorated with the Chinese bottle gourd plant comprising five-petaled flowers, leaves and gourds on a yellow ground. In Chinese culture gourds are believed to ward off evil spirits and diseases.
The interior is decortated with a red dragon which symbolises power, auspiciousness (good luck) and the Emperor of China.
More About Me
This bowl comes from the reign of the penultimate Emperor of the Qing dynasty, whose attempts at reform were hampered by the dowager empress Cixi.
