These types of shackles are most commonly used to connect large diameter mooring wires together when making up mooring legs for towing and mooring of Jack-Up and Drilling Rigs. They range from as low a working load limit of 1te SWL to as much as 1500te SWL in extreme cases. This shackles size is 55te SWL. The minimum breaking load on the shackle is noted as 5 x its SWL and weighs in at 40kgs for the 55te shackle.
