About MeThis wedding dress was worn by a bride born in South Africa, to Scottish parents, in 1927. She married a wholesale grocer from Elgin at Mortlach Church in Dufftown on the 12th of November 1949. The couple lived in Elgin for all their married life.
Despite the war and the uniform-like fashions of the 1940s, many women still wanted a white wedding that would brighten up the times of post-war hardship. During this time, wedding dresses were often long and narrow. Necklines were high and round and sleeves were long and tight. Although fabrics could be plain, this dress combines lace and rayon adding fullness to the outfit. This dress was worn with a two-metre-long tulle veil.
