About MeWedding dresses in this style were made popular in the 1950s by style icon, Grace Kelly. The design was copied and worn by brides in America and Europe. The dress features many of the iconic elements present in Grace's dress such as the fitted bustier-style bodice and lace over bodice with tight full-length sleeves. From the small waist springs a full skirt, which was fashionable throughout the 1950s.

The donor, Peggy Walker, spent her early childhood in the Aberdeenshire countryside until her family moved into central Aberdeen. She taught dressmaking and costume design at the Northern College of Education in Aberdeen. She also made costumes for student shows in her role as wardrobe mistress in the drama department. She was an expert on historical costume and amassed a large collection that was donated to Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums as the Peggy Walker Gift.
