About MeCorrespondence from James McBey to Marguerite Loeb (later McBey). Five little notes within an envelope.

They read:

"To Marguerite, With still more love, from James, Xmas 1932" (perhaps meant 1931 here - all of the other notes say 1931)

"Sweetheart, Would that I could shine the sun itself on your [illegible] instead of the poor substitute, James, xmas 1931"

"To Marguerite, from Dear James"

"To Sweetie of the Cold hands and the Warm Heart, from James xmas 1931"

"Sweetie, as these are harder than your feet, so much are they softer than high heels. The [illegible] will now purr when hitherto it has winced, James, xmas 1931"

On the envelope, he writes: "In a blizzard, a small rock seems friendly, James xmas 1931"

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
