In the letter Alida says that she would have written sooner, but was too busy when she got home, also explaining that the last time she returned all of her letters were already opened, except those from McBey. Alida talks about her trip to Rotterdam for rest and to get away from the family, but says that when she returned home everything was still the same. She explains that she is sometimes unhappy at home, but does not want to burden McBey with this, also asking, "Forgive me when I was once unkind to you."
In the rest of the letter Alida says that she hopes McBey had a good passage home despite the bad weather, explains that she is very busy at home and will be happy when the summer has passed, and talks about her experiences nursing an 85 year old woman.
This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
