He claims he does not sleep very soundly, which is apparently a usual occurrence when he is on the west coast of Scotland (perhaps, he claims, the "Gulf stream has taken out all the tonic from the winds"). He says he has not worked today as he felt "tired", and had gone for a three-mile walk with a friend, "Billy". He calls the weather "biting cold". He says he has replied to "Williams, Baser2 amongst others, regarding a matter not referred to in the letter.
He asks Marguerite how she got on with a friend, noting that "a little praise appears to go a long way".
He says there is a "meet" there tomorrow, "the only one of the season".
He says that "with any luck, [he] ought to finish Wednesday".
He includes a letter for Marguerite to send on.
