About MeLetter from Alida Spaander to James McBey dated 26 December 1910 in a postmarked envelope. Alida Spaander was the daughter of Leendert Spaander, who founded the Artist's Hotel, Hotel Spannader, Volendam, Netherlands in 1881. The business began as a cafe but was extended to a hotel and cafe restaurant, Alida took over the business in 1919.

In the letter Alida expresses how extremely happy she was to receive a letter from McBey, because she thought he had forgotten them all. She explains that she was sorry to hear McBey had been ill and hoped he felt better now, and thanks him for the gift, which she received when she came home a day before Christmas. Alida says that she had also been ill, but hoped to be better soon as she was planning a trip to England.

At the end of the letter Alida explains that she often hears from Mrs Fiddes Watt, but only sometimes hears from Mr Greig. She also talks about business having been quiet, as only 10 artists were currently staying with them, and signs the letter by telling McBey that the whole family send their love, and wish him a "happy and bright new year."

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
