About MeThis lilac silk wedding dress was worn by Mrs Jessie Davidson (nee Watt) to her wedding in 1900. The ceremony was held at the Richmond Hotel, owned by the bride's family. The dress was made by W. A. Fraser who was a dress and mantle maker based in Dufftown. The corded silk, cotton and chiffon is decorated with lace and marcasite. This dress shows that while the bustle remains it is somewhat diminished, and the emphasis is shifting to the bust area with layers of lace trimming.
Middle class ladies were still inclined to choose a coloured fabric as was the custom in the Victorian period. This meant that the dress could be worn again for best.
