About MeThis brown silk wedding dress was worn in Ellon in 1869. It features a bodice with round neckline, bishop sleeves lined in cream silk, a pointed waist at the front with a "fan" to sit over the bustle at the back. There are rust coloured silk tassels and ribbon on the sleeves as well as on the back. An apron overskirt in the same fabric and trimmings sits over the ensemble. The dress has a concealed pocket as well as a watch pocket.

The donor, Peggy Walker, spent her early childhood in the Aberdeenshire countryside until her family moved into central Aberdeen. She taught dressmaking and costume design at the Northern College of Education in Aberdeen. She also made costumes for student shows in her role as wardrobe mistress in the drama department. She was an expert on historical costume and amassed a large collection that was donated to Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums as the Peggy Walker Gift.
