About MeThis wedding dress was worn by Mrs Jessie Merchant (nee Clark), at her wedding in 1912. Since then, it has been altered and worn by another member of her family. Mrs Merchant grew up in Deeside and later moved to Rhynie. The patterned silk, known as 'figured' silk, is combined with fringes of white bugle and glass beads. The effect makes for a delicate and eye-catching dress. Silk stockings, also held in the collection, were worn with the wedding dress. Fine knitted silk was often used for stockings early in the 20th century, for those who could afford them.
