About MeWilliam Gear spent only ten days in St. Ives in 1948 where he painted about ten watercolours and six small oils inspired by his surroundings. In spite of this short visit his work had much in common with the abstract art of St. Ives, being ultimately rooted in the observed world. In addition, Gear had strong ties with Europe and shortly after his visit to St. Ives, he joined the post war expressionist group COBRA.More About Me
On several occasions, Gear’s work created public furore and much debate on the merits of abstract art.
