About MeCameron was a pupil of Robert Scott Lauder at the Trustees Academy in Edinburgh. He later moved down to London and followed a very successful career painting genre scenes, mainly of children and country life.

This work shows the influence of French Barbizon painters who were amongst the first artists to take everyday events as subjects for their art. Here we can see the typical traits of the Scott-Lauderites - thin transparent layers of colour executed in sketchy broken brushwork.
