About MePorcelain shouldered vase of tapering ovoid form with a short neck.

The vase is glazed inside and out in a dark green mottled glaze with a deep red streaked sang-de-boeuf overglaze.

Sang-de-boeuf, literally 'ox blood', is the French term for a brilliant red glaze developed in China. The colour is achieved by adding copper oxide to the glaze, which when it pools can resemble coagulated blood, giving the glaze its name.

Eddie Curtis has run his pottery, with his wife Margaret, in County Durham since 1979. This piece comes from the period when he was pursuing a love of copper red glazes.
