About MeLarge stoneware circular dish with two loop handles and rolled rim. It is glazed all over in a green-brown celadon-type wood ash glaze and decorated by combing through a liquid pinkish-brown iron slip in a series of swirling loops.
Edward Hughes wrote in 1996 that this piece was possibly the most representative of his work at that time and was influenced by Michael Cardew. Although Hughes fired his work at a high temperature in a reduction kiln, his decorative techniques are mostly traditional slipware in origin.
