About MeThis stoneware circular tureen, or vegetable dish, with cover is glazed in
a pale olive green celadon glaze with dark blue celadon over glaze on the exterior.
Both the cover and dish are decorated with abstract trails of pink and olive green glaze and a lattice pattern in iron brown glaze. The cover is also decorated with an abstract leaf resist pattern with iron brown dots resembling berries.
David Frith trained in the oriental tradition at Stoke-on-Trent and he uses Japanese decorative techniques in his work as well as celadon glazes. Celadon is a type of glaze which relies on a small amount of iron oxide to achieve the finished colour ranging from pale shades of green and blue to darker, almost black, colours.
