About MeThis domed cheese bell and circular stepped dish are made from Fremington clay, a clay local to Clive Bowen's North Devon Pottery, from which he makes most of his work.

The cheese bell (or cover) is almost cylindrical in shape, tapering slightly towards the shoulder with a small stepped knop which acts as a handle. It is wheel thrown with distinct potting rings and sits on a circular dish which has also been thrown on the wheel.

Both pieces are glazed in a mustard yellow slip (liquid clay) with free flowing bands of brown slip. The cheese bell is decorated with an abstract pattern of hand-painted curving ribbons in a green glaze combined with slashes and dots in brown.

Clive Bowen makes a wide selection of useful pieces for the storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food and drink, ranging from giant store jars to everyday dishes, jugs and mugs.
