About MeThis beaker-shaped cup is a type of Japanese teacup for daily tea drinking, known as a yunomi. It does not have a handle and is designed to be cradled in both hands.
This yunomi is decorated with white and orange shino glaze, a traditional glaze developed in Japan and known for its milky white and orange colours. It is composed primarily of feldspar which is a rock-forming mineral consisting of aluminosilicates of potassium, sodium, and calcium.
Lisa Hammond is based at her Maze Hill Pottery in Greenwich, where she makes a range of thrown functional pots mainly for the preparation and serving of food and beverages. She has spent time working and exhibiting in Japan and is well-known for her pioneering use of shino glazes.
