About MeA tsubo is a Japanese vessel used to store liquids like water and sake (rice wine) or as a decorative object in a home or garden.
This black stoneware tsubo is decorated with poured white shino and green ash running glazes. Shino glaze is a traditional Japanese glaze which ranges in colour from milky white to orange. It is composed primarily of feldspar which is a rock-forming mineral consisting of aluminosilicates of potassium, sodium, and calcium.
Lisa Hammond is based at her Maze Hill Pottery in Greenwich, producing a range of thrown functional pots mainly for the preparation and serving of food and beverages. She has spent time working and exhibiting in Japan and is well-known for her pioneering use of shino glazes.
