About MeThis silk and velvet wedding bonnet match a pink checked cotton wedding dress worn first in the 1850s. It is thought that the hat and dress were worn again in the 1880s by Mrs Isabel Oxley's (the donors) grandmother. It was usual for a wedding dress to be re-used even many years after it was originally worn for sentimental reasons, reasons of cost, or both.

In the 1880’s women’s hair was worn up in tight, close curls on top of the head. Small-brimmed hats and tiny bonnets were worn on top of the hairstyle, increasing height.
