About MeMrs MacDonald wore this dress in 1891 for her marriage to the burgh surveyor of Banff. Her choice to wear black for her wedding suggests that someone very close to her passed away recently. The dress is decorated with beadwork and three black beaded butterflies, a favourite motif in late Victorian fashion. Jet beads were used to adorn clothes in the later stages of mourning to give them richness and texture.
