About MeThis grey silk and muslin half mourning wedding dress has a boned bodice with pouched front, high neck, long tight sleeves and full skirt with gathering at the back.
The Edwardians still abided by the strict rules of mourning, which had been excessively followed during the Victorian period. This dress was made in Liverpool in 'half mourning' colours of grey, trimmed with ivory and black. If the bride was still in mourning for a late husband, she would not have been permitted to marry. Therefore, this bride must have been in mourning for another family member. Whatever stage of mourning she was in at the time; she would be allowed to wear the colours of the last stage of mourning on her wedding day.
