About MeThis skillet (frying pan) handle was found during the excavations at the Aberdeen Carmelite friary. Ceramic skillets are found in Aberdeen from the 14th or 15th century and were used for frying food. This skillet had a short handle which was unglazed.

The inside of the body of the vessel (left) has been covered in a brown glaze which has become discoloured. This may have occurred during the use of the vessel. Changes in cooking practices are often mirrored in the type of vessels found.
