About MeThis jug handle was found during an excavation at Aberdeen Carmelite friary in 1994. Jugs are the most common medieval pottery vessel. They come in a large range of shapes and sizes and have a variety of different handle types. Handles are generally rod (round in section) or strap (flat).
This is an unusual rod handle, which is x-shaped in section and twisted. Handles are often highly decorated with pinched and incised patterns. They are also the thickest part of the vessel.
