About MeLarge stoneware jug with rolled rim, pulled lip and strap handle. The jug is glazed in a grey-green salt glaze with a meandering sgraffito (scratched) design around the body.Michael Casson and his wife Sheila established a pottery at Wobage Farm in Herefordshire in 1977. He specialised in salt-glazed stoneware and blended his own slips (liquid clay) and glazes. When salt was introduced to the kiln at a high temperature the distinctive colours and textures for which Casson is known, were produced.
More About Me
Salt glaze is created by throwing common salt into the kiln during the firing process. Sodium from the salt reacts with silica in the clay to form a glassy coating.
