About MeThis small stoneware bowl is glazed in a mottled green ash glaze over an iron red slip (liquid clay).
Edward Hughes frequently incorporated ash from local trees in his glazes. when fired at a high temperature the glazes achieved rich mottled colours, reflecting the Cumbrian landscape where Hughes lived and worked.
