About MeTim Bailley was born in Westhill, Aberdeenshire in 1979. Both his parents were keen canoeists and encouraged him in the sport. He entered his first international competition was as a British Junior in the K1 category when he was 17 in 1996. The following year Bailley moved to Nottingham, and went to study at Nottingham University in mechanical engineering. He also went to train at the National Watersports Centre.

In 2003 he decided to switch to the C2 category and the following year he teamed up with Etienne Stott to compete in these events. As a team Bailley and Stott were very successful, being British Champions four times, winning the bronze medal place at the World Championships in 2009 and 2011, Bronze at the European Championships in 2009 and gold in 2012. Bailley's stated career highlight was winning the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic games.

He lives in Nottingham with his wife Sarah Boudens. Where when not working is canoeing, mountain biking, especially around Sherwood Pines, or attending live music venues.
