Aberdeen, Scotland, 1933 - 2012
About MeWith parents who were singers of traditional song, Ian Campbell grew up steeped in the music of the North-East. He became a leading singer in the British folk revival of the 1960s and made an outstanding contribution to traditional music. He formed The Ian Campbell Folk Group, gaining international popularity for blending traditional folk music with new material. His version of Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are a-Changin’ made the UK singles chart. The group performed on national television and radio, and at international festivals. In 1962 their album Ceilidh at the Crown made history as the first-ever live folk club recording to be released on vinyl.
