About MeBill Gibb was an iconic 1960s and 1970s fashion designer famed for his unconventional designer clothing and individuality. He launched his own label in the early 1970s with instant success.Kaffe Fassett was born in San Francisco and came to live in England in 1964. His early commercial collections were commissioned by Missoni and Bill Gibb.
Aberdeen born, Betty Clunas (1929-2012) served as the Chair of the Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums. This waistcoat was bought by Betty Clunas' daughter, Liz, from Bill Gibb’s boutique in London’s Bond Street in the summer of 1979.
Liz had met members of Bill Gibb’s family in Aberdeen on the evening of 21st October 1977. Her parents entertained members of Bill Gibb’s family with drinks at the Clunas family home in Fountainhall Road, immediately prior to a Bill Gibb fashion show held in the Cowdray Hall later that evening.
During the 1970s, the Clunas' had put up Kaffe Fassett and the weaver Richard Womersley to stay overnight in their home, when they paid a visit to Aberdeen in connection with Aberdeen Art Gallery.
