About MeRoger Fry's Post-Impressionist exhibitions in 1910 and then 1912 had a profound effect on Grant's work, whose painting subsequently underwent a series of fascinating changes which reflect an appraisal of Cézanne, Matisse and Picasso. A close friend of Vanessa Bell, Grant and she often painted the same subjects. Although painted more than thirty years before Bell's 'Still Life by the Studio Window' (also Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums collections), Grant's composition - an interior with a still life in front of a window - demonstrates their affinities.
