About MeJane Hamlyn set up her studio in 1975 initially making functional ceramics in the Leach tradition. Orange Counterpoint represents her later work and is from her Empty Vessels series which moved beyond utility to create ceramics that could be displayed solo or in groupings as art installations. It is part of a two-part work called Orange & Lemon Counterpoint.
The wheel-thrown cylinder was tilted, cut and joined to a base.
This vessel is lightly salt-glazed and was fired in an oil-fired kiln at 1280 degrees Celsius.
