About MeThis porcelain vase, or bud pot, was thrown initially on the wheel as a cylinder and then squashed by the potter whilst raising the vase to form an oval neck and fine rim. The clay has also been carved and textured in horizontal bands prior to glazing. This allows the blueish-green celadon glaze to pool in the grooves creating a variation of colour. The inside of the vase is smooth, with potting rings evident. Celadon is a type of glaze which originated in China and spread to other parts of East Asia. Iron oxide is added to create shades of pale green and blue and with the addition of a greater amount of iron oxide, in colours as dark as olive green and black.
