About MeThis shallow dish is glazed in a pale green wood ash and off-white slip with splashes of brown iron glaze along the inner rim. The glazes have been combed to create a banded and feathered effect.
Edward Hughes frequently incorporated wood ash, obtained from local hardwoods, in his glazes. When fired at a high temprature the glazes achieved rich mottled colours, reflecting the Cumbrian landscape where Hughes lived and worked.
