About MeA small porcelain bowl with narrow rim 'notch'. The prominent rings around the bowl were formed when Carina Ciscato held a rib against the clay when it was made using a potter's wheel. The bowl is fully glazed in a soft blue-grey celadon glaze. Celadon was first used in ancient China and can be found in many shades from pale blue to dark olive green, depending on the quantity of iron oxide added to the glaze before firing. There was a superstition in China that poisoned food would cause ceramics glazed in celadon to break or change colour.
Ciscato is a Brazilian potter from Sao Paulo now based in south London.
