About MeThis moon jar by Akiko Hirai was inspired by a flight she took over Alaska.

She threw the bottom section on a wheel and then built up the top section using a coiling technique, creating a perfectly shaped jar. She then deliberately distressed the rim in the same way as when something is broken, and invites the viewer to look at this pot and complete it in their imagination.
