About MeThis medium-sized jug is made from Fremington clay, a local clay from which Clive Bowen makes most of his work. It is wheel-thrown with a rounded body tapering to a narrow foot and a short neck.
The jug is glazed all over in a speckled yellow ochre slip (liquid clay) with hints of green around the inside neck. The lower section of body and handle are both glazed in a very dark brown, almost black slip and it is decorated with free flowing splashes of dark brown iron slip around the body and two sgraffito (scratched) bands of yellow towards the foot.
Bowen built his own wood-fired kilns for the production of domestic earthenwares at his North Devon pottery. He makes a wide selection of useful pieces for the preparation, cooking and serving of food ranging from giant store jars to everyday pots and dishes.
