About MeJohn Maberly was the owner of Broadfold Linen Works in Aberdeen where he manufactured coarse linen. He set up his own banking business under the cumbersome title of 'Aberdeen, Montrose, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow Exchange and Deposit Banks'.

Vignette of arms at top centre flanked by value and date; serial number, date and signatures would have been entered by hand but are absent on this unissued note which also has its 'security' counterfoil still attached.

John Maberly set up his own banking subsidiary in 1818 because of the reluctance of other banks to provide him with facilities for discounting bills without collateral security.
