About MeAn unissued note printed in black on a white ground. As well as the name of the bank and promissory clause it shows a version of the arms of Aberdeen on which the usual leopards are replaced by thistles.

A typical banknote of the late 18th century with a simple design which includes a counterfoil. On the counterfoil details such as serial number and date would have been entered on issue.

In the circumstances of the threat of invasion by France in the 1790s the British government needed coined money for the war effort and allowed banks to issue paper money with face values of less than one pound.
