About MeThis cream brocade wedding dress was purchased for £300 at 'Wedding Belles' in King Street, Aberdeen, and was worn at a wedding ceremony held in Torry, at St Fittick's Parish Church, in March 1968.
By the late 1960s the conservatism shown in wedding dresses since the end of World War Two was disappearing, and an element of fancy dress was beginning to creep in. Brides’ and bridesmaids’ dresses displayed a renewed interest in historical styles.
This dress features some of those traits, with the full-length skirt, the choice of fabric and the train attached to the back, just under the bustline, which hints at the Empire line made popular in the late eighteenth century.
