About MeThis dress is part of a wedding outfit with matching veil, stockings, shoes, gloves and a handkerchief, all worn by an Aberdeen bride to her wedding at Kelman Memorial Church, Peterculter, on the 28th of June 1923.The marriage of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon to the future King George VI took place in the same year. There was so much hype about Lady Elizabeth's bridal gown leading up to the big day that the 'Daily Sketch', a British tabloid newspaper, was permitted to publish a drawing of the dress before the event. Although this dress has a shorter hemline than the gown worn by Lady Elizabeth, it features the same deep neck-line, loose fitting bodice and drop waist, which was fashionable at the time, as well as handkerchief sleeves similar to those found on Lady Elizabeth's bridesmaids' dresses. The decoration on this dress is simpler by comparison, with its delicate row of pearls on the sleeves and orange blossom at the waist.
