About MeAlthough Sickert had painted and drawn many views of the theatre it was not until 1920 that he tackled this subject in etching. Here three female spectators are shown looking down at the stage from a balcony. Their features are somewhat caricatured and recall similar work by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, who was clearly an influence on Sickert both in his choice of subject matter and its treatment.

More About Me

This Parisian nightclub had also been frequented by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, whose images clearly influenced Sickert.
