About MeJim Lovegrove trained at the Royal College of Art in London after serving with the army during World War II. He struggled to support himself as an artist and began working for a living in other, more stable professions. He returned to art in 1991, exhibiting on a number of occasions before his death.
This work depicts three women around a table in a café. The women seem tense and appear to be waiting for someone. The muted colours add to the slightly downbeat tone, but Lovegrove applies them with an attention to texture and form, particularly in the curls of the women's hair. There are lines still visible on the work where it has been squared up. This indicates that it is probably a study for a larger work as the artist would have used the squares to transfer the image onto another surface.
