About MeThis jug with upright body and prominent lip is made of stoneware which has been fired at a high temperature in a wood kiln to achieve a rich red brown.
Michael Casson and his wife Sheila established a pottery at Wobage Farm in Herefordshire in 1977. He specialised in salt-glazed stoneware and blended his own slips (liquid clay) and glazes. When salt was introduced to the kiln at a high temperature the distinctive colours and textures for which Casson is known, were produced.
