About MeThis tall jug is made from Fremington clay, a local material from which Clive Bowen makes most of his work at his North Devon Pottery. Bowen built his own wood-fired kilns for the production of domestic earthenwares and makes a wide selection of items for the preparation, cooking and serving of food ranging from giant store jars to everyday pots and dishes.
The jug features a rolled rim with integral lip and pulled strap handle with prominent terminal where the potter has affixed the handle to the body.
It is glazed all over in a speckled yellow ochre slip (liquid clay) with the main section of body and lower half of handle both glazed in a very dark brown, mottled slip.
It is decorated with free flowing splashes of green slip applied in three places around the body.
