About MeThis satin wedding dress was worn by an Aberdeen bride at her wedding in Singapore, in 1931.The dress was bought at Nicoll, a popular bridal shop in Aberdeen at the time. It was accessorised with a long veil and a pair of pink suede, elbow-length gloves. The green Nicoll box packaging is also held in the collection.
The dress reflects all the romance and glamour of 1930s wedding fashions. During this time, wedding dresses were often made to look elegant and inventive, a trend established by the gowns worn by the newly established film stars.
This full-length dress features a zig-zag waist seam, a low, round neckline with a deep v-shaped back and a panel of satin gathered into the waistline. A sash comes up over both shoulders, down over the chest and is then caught through a fabric loop that holds it in place.
